Following a significant house fire in Sydney's south-west this morning, two people have died and two firefighters are being treated in the hospital. Ten fire trucks responded to an emergency at a townhouse on Rottnest Avenue in Hinchinbrook at around 5.40 in the morning.
At the scene, two people who have not yet been officially identified passed away. They were two of the six individuals, including a child, who received treatment from paramedics at the scene.
Two crew members also sustained injuries at the scene, according to Fire and Rescue NSW Super Intendant Luke Unsworth. According to him, "one firefighter received an electric shock, and another fell through a weak flood and hurt their back." In critical condition, both firefighters were taken to the hospital.
The young patient was taken in an emergency to the Children's Hospital at Westmead. Although they were able to put out the fire, Fire and Rescue NSW crews will stay on the scene. A crime scene has been established, an investigation is being conducted, and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
