Getting to Know the COVID Arm, One of the Side Effects of the COVID-19 Vaccine

COVID arm is one of the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine. Although classified as mild and considered harmless, the COVID arm can cause discomfort and interfere with daily activities. However, you don't need to worry, because there is an easy way to fix it.

Every vaccine can cause side effects, and the COVID-19 vaccine is no exception. The side effects caused also vary, ranging from mild to severe. Some examples of vaccine side effects are fatigue, low-grade fever, pain at the injection site, headaches, to anaphylactic reactions .

These side effects generally occur within 1-2 days after the injection. However, in some people, side effects can appear several days after giving the COVID-19 vaccine. Well, one of these side effects is the COVID arm.

Knowing the Side Effects of COVID Arm

When it enters the body, the COVID-19 vaccine will start working to form antibodies to fight the Corona virus. However, some people's immune systems may perceive some of the ingredients in the COVID-19 vaccine as foreign.

This makes the body's immune cells fight vaccines excessively as a method of self-defense. This condition is the cause of allergic reactions after the COVID-19 vaccination, and one of them is the COVID arm.

COVID arm can occur either after the first or second dose of vaccine. Unlike the side effects of other COVID vaccines, the new COVID arm will appear on the 5th day to more than one week after vaccination.

Symptoms of COVID arm include pain or itching in the arm around the injection area, a red rash, and warmth and swelling of the skin at the injection site.

The COVID arm is considered harmless to health and will subside on its own within 3-5 days. However, it is possible that these side effects will last longer.

How to Overcome the Side Effects of COVID Arm

Although it can subside on its own, COVID arm often makes sufferers feel uncomfortable and find it difficult to carry out daily activities.

If you have COVID arm after getting the COVID-19 vaccine, you can use a cold compress to relieve swelling at the injection site. You can also take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as paracetamol .

In addition, drink plenty of water, consume healthy foods , and get enough rest so that your body recovers quickly after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

It is important for you to know that the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine far outweigh the side effects. If you develop COVID-19 after the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, you can and may even need to receive the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Inform your doctor or health worker in advance about the COVID arm you experience after the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. You may be advised to get a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in a different arm.

However, if the pain and swelling in the COVID arm gets worse, especially if it is accompanied by shortness of breath, chest pain, and weakening of the arms or legs, immediately visit a doctor or the nearest health facility to get the right treatment.
